Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) have been selected as one of the UK’s Climate Leaders ahead of the COP26 United Nations 2021 Climate Change conference, due to take place in Glasgow, in November this year.
COP26 will bring together almost every country on earth for a global climate change summit. Ahead of this, the Cabinet Office will be showcasing AF&RS’s environmental journey in a bid to encourage others to make changes and reduce their carbon footprint.
As a Service we’re passionate about reducing our impact on the environment. It’s more important than ever to ensure the decisions we make as a Service are not only to keep our communities safe and make our Service stronger but also to protect the environment in which we live and work.
Annabel Harford, Environmental Manager, said: “As a Fire and Rescue Service we have a long way to go in fully decarbonising our vehicles and stations, but I am incredibly proud of the strides we are making to achieve our ambitious plans.
“It is an honour to be recognised as one of the UK’s Climate Leaders, we’ve made a lot of progress on our environmental journey so far and being recognised for this only increases our motivation to make further changes.
“From electric vehicles to installing LED lighting and solar panels, we’re well on our way to reducing our carbon footprint. Over the next few years you can anticipate trials of electric fire engines and much more in a bid to achieve our ambitious Net Zero carbon goal by 2030.”
