AF&RS On-Call firefighting recruits complete their training

We are delighted to be celebrating the graduation of our new on-call recruits, following the completion of their extensive training course at the Services training Centre, Severn Park, and who will now join their colleagues on stations across the local area, putting the skills and training they acquired into practice.

The rigorous training course allowed the new recruits to develop specialist knowledge and a wide range of practical skills including tactical firefighting, pitching ladders, breathing apparatus, road traffic collision safety and water safety and rescue.

Due to the current restrictions in place, and with large gatherings still not permitted, the completion of their training was celebrated at an intimate socially distanced ceremony held at Severn Park, Avonmouth. The team consisting of eight recruits showcased their newly acquired skills during the closed event to training staff, and were presented with their certificates by Group Manager Russ Mitchell in recognition of successfully completing their course and becoming skilled Firefighters.

Chief Fire Officer Mick Crennell said: "I am delighted to welcome our new recruits to AF&RS, following the completion of their extensive training course. The recruits have had to work very hard in a short amount of time, but have risen to the challenge.

"I would also like to thank our fantastic instructors who’ve worked extremely hard to train our new recruits and bring them up to the high training standards we have.

"Our On-call firefighters are a vital part of our Service and who all have other jobs or commitments, are an inspiration and a testament to what is at the heart of every firefighter – the desire to help others.

"I wish our new recruits the very best of luck during their careers here at AF&RS".
