New Assistant Chief Fire Chief appointed

Avon Fire Authority and Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is pleased to announce the appointment of a new Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO). Jon Day, an existing Area Manager with Avon Fire & Rescue Service, will take up his new post as Director of Operational Response from the end of February 2010.
Jon, 45, lives in Bath and is married with two children. He has worked for the service for 26 years in a wide range of roles.
Speaking about his appointment Jon said: "I feel very proud and privileged to have been given this opportunity. I very much look forward to giving my commitment and support to the senior management team and ensuring that we continue to provide an excellent service to our communities."
Chair of Avon Fire Authority, Councillor Terry Walker, said: "We are delighted with this appointment. Jon is an exceptional operational officer and has tremendous respect and credibility across the organisation. He will be a welcome asset to an already very strong management team."
Jon Day will take over from ACFO John Dando, who retires after 30 years service with AF&RS.
John Dando, began his career with AF&RS in 1979 as a firefighter at Patchway Fire Station and worked his way up through the service being appointed ACFO in July 2007. He lives in Weston-super-Mare with his wife Marie. The couple has a son, Ben, who is serving in the Royal Navy.
