Firefighters get sponges at the ready for charity car wash

Firefighters across Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) will have buckets and sponges at the ready as they take part in a charity car wash this weekend.

The annual Fire Fighters Charity Car Wash takes place on Saturday 14 September.

Motorists will be able to have their wheels washed and bonnets buffed in return for a donation to the charity.

Crews at Nailsea, Speedwell and Weston-super-Mare fire stations will be taking part, offering fire safety advice and collecting Home Fire Safety Visit referrals.

AF&RS visits the home of the most vulnerable members of the community offering fire safety advice and fitting smoke detectors for free.

All money raised will be donated to The Fire Fighters Charity, which provides support services and treatment to more than 13,500 serving and retired members of staff from UK fire and rescue services. It is run at a cost of £9 million a year and is entirely reliant on donations from the general public and fire community.

Charity car washes will take place at the following locations:

Speedwell Fire Station, Speedwell Road, Bristol, 11am-4pm

Nailsea Fire Station, Pound Lane, Nailsea, 10am – 4pm

TK Maxx and Sainsbury’s car park, Worle, Weston-super-Mare, 10am-3pm

Kingswood Fire Station, Tenniscourt Road, Kingswood, 9am – 1pm
