The best way to protect yourself and others from the dangers of smoking at home is to smoke outside. Not only are you reducing the risk or a fire, but you’re also making sure your home environment is cleaner and healthier too.

Smoking can cause significant risk of fire, if you smoke, it’s important you take care and follow our advice:

  • Never smoke in bed
  • Use a proper ashtray – never a wastepaper basket or flammable material
  • Don’t leave a lit cigarette unattended
  • Keep matches and lighters out of reach of children
  • Stub cigarettes our properly and dispose of them

When using vapes and e-cigarettes, make sure that you:

  • Check that the output voltage and ratings marked on the charger and the electrical device (battery) are the same
  • Ensure they are purchased from a reputable manufacturer that follows British safety standards
  • Check for a CE mark, but don’t rely on this to guarantee a product’s safety. A CE mark is a declaration from the manufacturer that the product is safe, but like all markings, it can be forged.
  • Make sure you follow the instructions on how to use the product safely
  • Do not dispose of vapes or batteries in your household waste, visit Recycle Now to find out about recycling in your local area
  • Don’t buy counterfeit goods, they are not subject to manufacturing standards and may be more dangerous
