Candles

We would always recommend that you use battery-powered LED candles instead of candles with real flames. They are a safe alternative. 

Candles, tea lights and oil or incense burners can create a nice aroma, but they can also lead to serious fires.  

If you do decide to use these, be sure to follow safety advice and in the event of an emergency, get out, stay out and call 999.

• Always purchase quality candles from a reputable supplier and ensure that you read the safety label attached.
• Place your candle in a fire-resistant holder and keep it well clear from furniture and curtains and never use inside or near a tent.
• Always put out candles before leaving the room or going to bed and never move them when lit.
• Keep candles, matches and lighters out of reach of children and pets.

If there’s a fire

• Get out of the building, closing any doors behind you.
• Stay out of the building.
• Call 999 and ask for the fire service.
• If your clothes catch fire, remember to ‘Stop, drop and roll’.
