Unattended cooking sparks fire

Wednesday 23 December
17.56 Locking Road, Milton, Weston-super-Mare

Firefighters have been called to tackled a blaze after cooking was left unattended on a hob.

When crews arrived at the flat they found a neighbour who had heard the smoke alarm in the property activating and dialled 999.

As firefighters could see smoke coming from the property, but were unable to raise the occupant, they forced entry into the flat and found a fire in the kitchen.

A short time later the occupant, a woman in her 20s, returned. It’s thought she had gone out and left something cooking on the hob.

The flat suffered smoke damage.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people never to leave cooking unattended as it can lead to fire breaking out.
