Candle sparks fire

Wednesday 4 November
22.59 Ernestville Road, Fishponds, Bristol

Three children have been taken to hospital after a fire at their home.

Crews were called to the property and on arrival found a fire in the first floor bedroom.

Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the premises and tackled the fire using a high pressure hose reel. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.

It’s thought the fire started accidentally after a lit candle was knocked over.

Three children, aged one, two and three years old, were in the house at the time. Two of the children were taken to hospital with smoke inhalation and the other was suffering from burns to his feet.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when using candles and to always ensure they are extinguished after use. Find out more in the safety leaflet -
