17.55 Incidents across the region
Avon Fire & Rescue Service responded to dozens
of calls to flooding and other weather related incidents as heavy
rain fell across the region.
Just before 18.00hrs the 999 control room began receiving calls
from the North Somerset area as the storm tracked up the
county.
Fire crews initially attended flooded homes and businesses in
Portishead, Nailsea and Clevedon, but by 18.30hrs crews in Bristol
were also responding to incidents caused by the adverse weather
conditions.
In just two hours the service's control room handled more than 100
calls from members of the public seeking assistance. Staff also
dispatched appliances to scores of fire alarms triggered by the
rain, thunder and lightning.
Fire crews used pumps to remove water from flooded properties
and assist the public in the clean up operation. There were no
injuries reported during the bad
weather.
