Home Fire Safety Visits save lives

Many people are at risk from fire in the home, from families with young children to older people living alone.  A fire can break out for many reasons, from cooking being left unattended or an electrical fault, to candles not being used safely.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) is often called to house fires where a smoke alarm would have provided the occupiers with an early warning that they were in danger.

Home Fire Safety Visits provide you with free advice on all aspects of fire safety in the home. A smoke alarm will also be fitted during the visit if required, with fire service staff explaining how to maintain it correctly.

Specialist visits and smoke alarms for people who are deaf or hard of hearing are also available - find out more on the Deaf community fire safety page.

If there was a fire would you and your family know how to get out? The best way out of your home is the way you regularly come in, but make sure you have other escape routes in case it is blocked. Make sure escape routes are clear of obstacles.
