Firesetters

Tackling fire setting problems

Most children show a natural interest and curiosity in fire. However, for some young people this interest develops into something more dangerous, putting themselves, their family, friends and homes at risk.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service has a team of dedicated Firesetter Intervention Officers who can help parents and carers with firesetting problems. Call us on 0117 926 2061 extension 393 or click here to arrange a Firesetters visit.

We work with individual children at home or school.

We do not punish children, but help them to change their dangerous fire setting behaviour.

How can I help?

Never leave matches or lighters around the house, even if they are in pockets or handbags.  Lock them away or put them out of reach of children.

Tell your child from an early age, never to touch matches and lighters. Tell them how dangerous they can be and that they can burn. Always remind them that matches and lighters are for grown ups only.

Is your child curious? Look for the signs.
