Application Form

The application form plays a vital role in deciding whether you should be brought forward for the selection tests, so it is important you complete the form as fully and as accurately as possible, and in accordance with the guidance provided.

Shortlisting

All application forms are read carefully by the recruitment team, which is trained only to use the information from the application form and not make assumptions.

Written Tests

If you are shortlisted, you will take a series of written tests designed to evaluate your problem solving skills and how well you would fit into a team of firefighters.

Physical Tests

If you successfully pass the written tests, you will be required to perform a series of physical tests to assess your fitness, manual dexterity and physical skills related to work in the fire service.

Interview 

If you achieve a satisfactory standard at the physical tests, you will be invited to attend an interview. The interview allows the panel to assess your suitability for a career in firefighting. It is also an opportunity for you to ask questions about the job.

Medical

If you are successful at interview, you will be required to attend our Occupational Health department for a full medical examination, including an eye test.

Appointment

Following medical clearance, and subject to satisfactory references, criminal records bureau (CRB) check and the number of vacancies available, you will be offered a place on a training course.
