Anyone who thinks of the fire service usually thinks of
firefighting without considering the service's wider obligations
and accountability to the public, stakeholders and
staff.
Modern fire services do not just consist of uniformed staff and
firefighters.
The group of staff who provide these 'other' services are known as
the support staff. Support staff provide professional,
technical and administrative services. These have helped Avon
Fire & Rescue Service to become a particularly progressive
service, with many areas of good practice.
The range of services includes:
Human resources, finance, supplies, strategic planning, performance
management, best value, information, mapping and data management,
statistical analysis, systems development, workshops, health and
safety, project and fleet management, communications and media
liaison, web and graphic design, marketing and customer
consultations, document and CAD plan production.
The service currently employs a total of 136 support staff.
