Firefighters in training scenario with a blaze

Induction

You will attend a three-day induction at the Severn Park Fire & Rescue Training Centre.

Day one - will consist of an overview of the training course, the Centre and its staff, and an introduction to key areas such as health and safety, communications, welfare, and your learning and development. You will also be advised on your cover and what will be expected of you on station.

Days two and three - will comprise of learning of a more practical nature including manual handling, pumps and primers, safe working near water, ropes and knots, hydrants, safe working at height, and hose running, reels and branches.

Pre-Course Training

Following your induction you will attend pre-course training by attending your station's drill night for four weeks. Each station has a drill night on a specified evening each week which lasts for approximately two hours. This will provide the opportunity for you to get to know station staff and procedures, and complete further induction.

Firefighter Training

Following your pre-course training you will attend the Severn Park Fire & Rescue Training Centre for firefighter training. The 20 day course is split into three modules, and you must be able to attend and successfully complete all three modules consecutively to pass the course.

Equalities Training

Your initial training will conclude with a one day Equalities & Values training session at our Service Headquarters.

Your Development

Once you have have successfully completed all induction and training and have been assessed by our Assessment & Development Unit, you will be issued with your alerter and be able to respond to operational incidents.

You will then follow a development programme, which may take between 18 months and 3 years to complete, and you are required to successfully complete the programme to be deemed competent. Your training and development will continue throughout your service on your station's drill night.

Payment for attendance on all courses will be made.
