Firefighters stage high rise fire exercise

Firefighters have been rehearsing their response to a fire in a high rise building, during an exercise in a block of flats in Barton Hill.

The scenario featured an adult and child trapped by a fire in their flat on the tenth floor.

Crews were given access to Ashmead House on Avonvale Road by Bristol City Council.

AF&RS celebrates links with Humdard

AF&RS’s links with Asian women’s group, Humdard, were recognised during the launch of the group’s annual report and presentation ceremony. Assistant Chief Fire Officer (ACFO) John Dando was invited to speak at the event and hand out certificates in celebration of the achievements of members, while our BME (Black and Minority Ethnic) Advocate Nila Rehman talked about fire safety.

After he had completed his presenting duties, ACFO Dando was then invited to accept a certificate of merit on behalf of AF&RS from the group. Jamila Aftab, Humdard Manager (pictured centre, with Nila Rehman and ACFO John Dando), presented ACFO Dando with the award.

Weekend of community advice for Clevedon

Clevedon’s firefighters had a successful weekend of talking fire safety to visitors at two local events.

The crew took along a fire appliance to Clevedon Conservative Club’s open day (pictured), and joined their colleagues from Weston-super-Mare for the Marlens Festival of the Sea at Clevedon’s Salthouse Fields.

Candles
Do not leave candles unattended and make sure they are out before you go to bed. Always use the right kind of holders, placed on fireproof surfaces. Keep lit candles away from clothing and furnishings.
