W-s-M hotel hit by fire

A firefighter on the truntable ladder at Lynton Hotel in Weston-super-Mare

Monday 15 December
05.44 Lyton House Hotel, Madeira Road, Weston-super-Mare (W-s-M)

Crews from W-s-M (Stn 18) were initially called to a hotel fire after staff were alerted by the property's smoke alarm and the smell of burning. W-s-M crews were quickly followed by appliances from Yatton and Winscombe to tackle the fire which was breaking out through the roof. Thankfully there was no one in the area where the fire broke out, and only a handful of staff in another part of the property who had swiftly evacuated.

Hose reels were put onto the roof using the Turntable Ladder from W-s-M. Although the fire had broken through the ceiling into a couple of first floor firefighters worked hard and managed to contain the spread. Crews remained on the scene for some time dampening down.
Fire Investigation concluded that the fire was accidental, due to an electrical fault in the roof area.
