Firefighters from Weston-super-Mare and Bristol were involved in a rescue operation after a teenage boy became trapped on cliffs at Uphill.

The 16-year old was climbing without ropes along with an 18-year-old male. The older male fell around 30ft suffering various injuries, including facial injuries. The 16-year-old remained on a ledge and used his mobile phone to call 999 to request help.

On arrival fire crews from Weston-super-Mare found the older male in the care of the ambulance service. A rope was lowered from the top of the cliffs to the 16-year-old who was secured until Avon Fire & Rescue Service's rope rescue team from Temple Fire Station in Bristol could attend.

A rope rescue operative descended from above and placed the boy in a rescue harness, before bringing him safely to the bottom of the cliffs. The younger boy was unhurt in the incident, while the 18-year-old was taken to hospital by the ambulance service.
