Fire Control received numerous calls to this
fire after think billowing clouds of black smoke could be seen from
across the city.
On arrival crews initially thought it was a derelict building that
was alight, however on getting water onto the fire and the smoke
dispersing it became apparent that it was actually a quantity of
tyres that were being stored in an outside space between two
derelict / empty premises that were well alight.
Crews used four jets and one ground monitor to put water on the
fire, with six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus, due to the
thick acrid smoke venting from the fire. The outside apex of
one of the buildings adjacent to the fire was also affected by the
flames and smoke.
An investigation into the cause of the fire found it to be
deliberate. |
