Monday 23 January
23.20 Cobhorn Drive, Withywood, Bristol
A householder had her smoke alarm to thank for saving her life
after a fire broke out in a bedroom.
The female was woken by the alarm after a fire started in an
airing cupboard in the room she was asleep in. After waking up, she
quickly left the room, closed the door behind her and called for
help.
Two fire engines from Bedminster Fire Station attended the
incident at the ground floor flat. Once on scene firefighters in
breathing apparatus entered the property to tackle the well
developed fire.
In the short time it took for crews to reach the home, the fire
had spread rapidly from the cupboard to the rest of the bedroom,
including the bed. Fortunately the smart actions of the
householder, who had closed the bedroom door, meant the fire was
contained to the room. Crews used a hose reel to bring the blaze
under control, although severe damage was caused to the room.
The incident highlights the value of a working smoke alarm,
which in this case saved the life of the female who was asleep in
the flat. The early warning she received allowed her to escape
quickly and safely. If you would like to
