Shop evacuated following fears over solvent smell

14 December

Staff at a shop in the Clifton area of Bristol could smell some sort of solvent and decided to call Environmental Health, who then called the fire and rescue service. Crews from Temple Fire Station attended and located the smell to the basement area.  During this time they evacuated the shop and called for the Environmental Response Unit from Brislington Fire Station.

Working with scientific services firefighters traced the smell to some telecommunications engineering work that had been carried out earlier that day. A fan was used to clear the basement area and an engineer attended the next day to repair the problem.
