Monday 21 June
00.40 Walliscote Road, Weston-super-Mare.
Two men were led to safety and around 20 residents
were evacuated after a small fire broke out in a store room of a
hotel.
Fortunately, the hotel’s alarm system alerted occupants to the fire
and the majority had evacuated the building before crews arrived on
the scene.
However, all the residents could not be accounted for and as the
first floor was smoke logged, six firefighters wearing breathing
apparatus were sent in to the building.
Two tackled the fire using a hose reel, while four firefighters
conducted a search of the building. During their search they found
two men asleep on the first floor – crews woke them up and led them
to safety.
The cause of the fire is under
investigation.
