A group of Avon Fire & Rescue Service firefighters are set to
embark on a grueling challenge to raise money for charity.
On Saturday 1 May
Firefighter Mike Collin, who is a member of White Watch at
Speedwell Fire Station, will be joined by some of his colleagues to
climb the height of Mount Everest, using a ladder in the Cabot
Circus shopping centre in Bristol.
The challenge,
which starts at midday, is expected to take around three hours to
complete, with the participants climbing the ladder 1,006 times
between them as they re-create the 8,840 metres to the top of the
world’s highest peak.
Shoppers will be
invited to make a donation to The Fire Fighters Charity and
children’s charity Wooden Spoon.
The Fire Fighters
Charity provides support services and treatment to serving and
retired firefighters in times of need and Wooden Spoon aims to
provide disadvantaged children with opportunities.
Speaking about the
climb, Mike said: “This is quite a tough challenge to undertake and
will no doubt test our stamina and fitness skills.
“We are really
hoping that the event will attract the attention of shoppers and
they will come over and donate to these two very worthwhile
causes.”
As well as
donating on the day members of the public can donate online by
visiting www.justgiving.com/4peakjampotters
or www.spoonchallenges.com and
donating to team number five, the Jampotters.
