Students from
Wyvern Community School in Weston-super-Mare have been helping
local firefighters and police to promote Bonfire Night safety
messages.
The students
worked with firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service
(AF&RS) and their local Police Community Support Officers
(PCSOs), to help stage a realistic demonstration of what can
happen when fireworks get out of control.
In the last five
years more than 5,500 people in the UK have needed hospital
treatment as a result of injuries caused by fireworks.
Watch Manager
Roger Farrant, AF&RS Community Safety Officer for
Weston-super-Mare, said: “Fireworks can be really good fun for all
the family, but they can be dangerous if they’re not used
correctly.
“The students
were really keen to help us promote Bonfire Night safety messages
and did an excellent job in raising awareness among their peer
group."
