Kingswood firefighters are giving local residents an
opportunity to take a look behind the scenes of some of their work
during an open day at the fire station on Saturday 1 September.
A series of demonstrations have been lined up for the annual
Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) event, including how
firefighters use cutting equipment to rescue people trapped
following road traffic collisions. The open day will take place at
the fire station on Tenniscourt Road between 11am and 3pm.
And visitors will also have a chance to test out equipment,
including the Thermal Imaging Camera and breathing apparatus, and
take a look around the Command Unit which is used to coordinate
large-scale incidents.
The turntable ladder and hydraulic platform will be on display
and there will also be demonstrations from the chip pan
unit.
The day will also feature raffles, a barbeque and refreshments –
proceeds from this will go to the Fire Service’s National
Benevolent Fund.
Open days staged at Kingswood over the last four years have
proved popular with locals, said Kingswood Station Manager Andy
Southard.
He added; “Our open days are always well received and in recent
years we’ve had over 200 people attending. The event is certainly
in the calendar for local residents, young and old alike, and we
welcome the opportunity to tell people about our
work.”
