Currently appliances from Avon Fire & Rescue Service,
including our High Volume Pump, remain on the scene at the British
Oxygen Company site, on Whitby Road, in Bristol.
We would like to reassure members of the public and those
businesses affected that every effort is being made to bring this
incident to a safe conclusion, as swiftly as possible.
This is a complex incident involving a significant number of
cylinders and Avon Fire & Rescue Service is following national
procedures for fires involving acetylene.
We appreciate for members of the public, especially those
who have been affected by this incident, it is extremely
frustrating as from the outside there is very little to see.
But rest assured the operations we have been involved in are
vital to public safety and to ensure as little disruption as
possible.
Over the last few days we have been able to reduce the cordon
around the incident and allow, where possible, business to return
to normal.
This is a multi-agency operation and all those involved are
working around the clock to bring this incident to a safe
conclusion.
We appreciate the disruption caused to local businesses and road
users, however public safety must remain our primary
concern.
