Avon Fire & Rescue Service is set to welcome a royal visitor
to Nailsea Fire Station, which is also home to the service’s Urban
Search and Rescue (USAR) Team.
HRH The Duke of Gloucester will be joined by the Lord-Lieutenant
of Somerset, Lady Gass, on Wednesday 10 February.
While at the station His Royal Highness and Lady Gass will meet
the Chair of Avon Fire Authority, Councillor Terry Walker and Chief
Fire Officer/Chief Executive Kevin Pearson, along with Avon Fire
Authority Members and Avon Fire & Rescue Service staff.
The USAR fire station opened in October 2008 after a two year
project to redevelop Nailsea Fire Station. USAR forms part of
the Government’s National Resilience programme, which provides fire
and rescue services with the resources to respond to major
emergencies involving chemical, biological, radiological and
nuclear (CRBN) events, search and rescue, large scale flooding and
major transport incidents.
During the visit His Royal Highness and Lady Gass will be given
a tour of the station, where staff will demonstrate some of the
equipment used by firefighters, including the service’s High Volume
Pump and technical search cameras and listening devices.
Children from Ravenswood and Kingshill Church of England Primary
School will welcome The Duke of Gloucester on his arrival at
Nailsea Fire Station.
