South Gloucestershire Council is leading on a mini week of
action which takes place in Kingswood from Wednesday 15 to Saturday
18 July to improve the quality of life for residents and
traders.
There will be high visibility patrols from all agencies taking
part including officers from the council, Safer South
Gloucestershire, Avon & Somerset Constabulary and Avon Fire
& Rescue Service.
Some of the events taking place during the day and at night
include:
■ Council and police involved in operations on Friday and
Saturday nights, tackling binge drinking as part of a summer
campaign called Know Your Limits
■ Avon Fire & Rescue open day at Grimsbury Farm on
Friday 17th
■ Officers from all agencies will be out and about
talking to residents and providing advice and support to
communities on how to make their communities even safer.
Cllr Heather Goddard, executive member for communities, said:
“The activities we have organised over the four days of action are
a direct response to the concerns of the Kingswood community and
aim to tackle the issues that matter to these local
communities."
Group Manager Robbie Roberts, Avon Fire & Rescue Service,
added: "We are committed to making Kingswood a safer place to work,
live and play in. By working in partnership to do this, it means we
can reach the heart of the community to spread vital safety
messages and get to the root of the problem and we hope this
mini-week of action will make a real difference to residents."
Supporting the mini week of action, Neighbourhood Inspector
Kevin Thatcher, said: "Kingswood is an area with a busy nightlife.
This mini-week of action aims to make sure people going out and
those who work in pubs and clubs have a good time and stay
safe.
"Our aim is to stop trouble before it starts through
high-visibility patrols early in the evening, reminding people of
the consequences of their actions if they go too
far."
