Press release - Firefighters welcome the Lord Mayor of Bristol to Bedminster Fire Station

The Lord Mayor takes a look at some of the equipment from a fire engine. Firefighters will be welcoming the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Christopher Davies, to Bedminster Fire Station tomorrow (Tuesday 4 November).

Councillor Davies will meet with Avon Fire Authority Chairman, Councillor Terry Walker, and Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive Kevin Pearson and will be given a tour of the fire station.

Councillor Davies will also meet members of Blue Watch, who will demonstrate a number of the service’s appliances including the hovercraft, rescue boats and Urban Search and Rescue (USAR) vehicles.

A group of ten young people from the Prince’s Trust, who have been attending a course at Avon Fire & Rescue Service’s Youth Development Centre (YDC), which is based at Bedminster Fire Station, will also be demonstrating their new drill skills.

The Lord Mayor is shown chemical detection equipment used by the fire service. Avon Fire & Rescue Service’s Chief Fire Officer / Chief Executive Kevin Pearson said: “It will be a huge honour to meet the Lord Mayor of Bristol, Councillor Christopher Davies, and I am very much looking forward to showing him around one of our busiest fire stations.

“As well as getting an insight into the valuable work we do at Avon Fire & Rescue Service, there will also be the opportunity to see some of the preventative work we do at the YDC. We are always very keen to engage with young people, educate them about the dangers of fire and work with them to ensure they know the risks.”

Avon Fire & Rescue Service’s Youth Development Centre Avon Fire & Rescue Service's hovercraft is shown to the Lord Mayor. opened in March 2006 and is a purpose built facility, which is at the heart of all the service’s youth work providing educational skills and qualifications to young people of the Avon area.
