Tomorrow (Friday 24 October) three firefighters from Bristol
will be starting their ‘Slow Way Down’ journey in aid of
charity.
Danny Munden, Aaron Cooke and Ross Pullen, who are all based at
Speedwell Fire Station, will spend the next 12 days riding mopeds
from John O’Groats, in Scotland, to Tarifa in Spain.
Dressed in fire kit and wearing bright yellow crash helmets, the
team is hoping to raise £10,000 for Children in Need. After
completing their journey they will then be auctioning off their
mopeds, crash helmets and other equipment to boost their
fundraising efforts.
The trip will see the team travelling more than two thousand
miles, stopping off at fire stations along the way.
Team leader Danny Munden said: “A lot of planning and
organisation has gone into this challenge and we are now really
looking forward to getting on the road. We know it will be tough at
times but it will be worth it to raise money and help disadvantaged
children across the world.”
Speaking ahead of the challenge, Aaron said: “I have never done
anything like this before and I am not really sure what I am
letting myself in for. As we are wearing fire kit and bright yellow
crash helmets I am sure we will attract some attention along the
way. I hope everyone who sees us will help us raise as much money
as possible for Children in Need.”
The team recently wrote to a number of celebrities who have
taken part in similar challenges to ask for tips and advice ahead
of the challenge. Details of the team’s supporters can be found by
