Bath Fire Station will provide the ultimate free summer day out
for the entire family, when it opens its doors to the public.
On Sunday 31 August, firefighters will be welcoming local people
onto the station, giving them a chance to find out more about the
work of the city’s fire crews.
During the day, all of Bath’s fire appliances will be on
display, including the station’s safety boat. Avon Fire &
Rescue Service’s specialist chemical detection unit is also being
brought in for the event.
One of the main attractions on the day will see firefighters
working alongside paramedics from Great Western Ambulance Service
during two reconstructions of road traffic collision rescues. The
event will also provide a good opportunity for people to chat to
local firefighters and pick up some advice about keeping themselves
and their families safe from fire. The dramatic chip pan
demonstration unit will be in action on the day, highlighting the
dangers of cooking with oil. Avon and Somerset Constabulary will
also attend with their community van.
A bouncy castle, face painting and badge making will be on offer
to entertain children throughout the day. And for those who get
peckish, local butcher Bartlett and Sons, will be providing a
barbecue throughout the event.
Blue Watch Manager Shane Saunders said: “We are a service that
is at the heart of the local community, so it’s great for us to be
able to meet the people in Bath we are here to look after.
“Hopefully the open day will provide a good opportunity for
people to find out a bit more about the work we do here in the
city, pick up some useful tips on staying safe and provide a fun
day out for the whole family.”
The open day takes place at Bath Fire Station, Cleveland Bridge
from 10am to 3.30pm on Sunday 31 August.
