Here’s one New
Year’s resolution we want you to keep in 2009 – make sure you have
a working smoke detector on every storey of your home.
Smoke detectors will pick up traces of smoke
before you do, giving an early warning of danger and precious
time for you and your loved ones to escape safely.
You can buy smoke
detectors from as little as £5 at various DIY, electrical or
hardware stores and most supermarkets. Once you have put up your
smoke detector, test it every week.
A fire which took
place in Knowle this weekend highlighted the value of smoke
detectors – fortunately the occupants were alerted to a fire
developing in the kitchen and were able to escape uninjured.
