Firefighters from
Portishead raised over £850 for their local youth club when they
lathered up for charity car wash.
The crew were
greeted with a queue of vehicles when they arrived at Waitrose’s
Car Park in Portishead for the annual car wash and, with the help
of members of the local youth centre, cleaned over 200 cars in
total during the day.
Funds raised from
the event have been given to Portishead Youth Centre’s
redevelopment appeal.
Firefighter Daren
Beacham said: “Many of us grew up in the local area and we know how
important it is to have facilities for young people.
“Our car washes in
the past have raised a great deal of money for national and
international appeals and this time we decided that a local
community organisation should benefit.
“While we were
cleaning cars non-stop for about six hours, it was definitely worth
it!”
Roger Sainsbury
from Portishead Youth Centre said, “It was good to be able to share
the day with the firefighters when they were car washing and we
were absolutely delighted with the money they raised for
us.
“We hope that this
will be a platform from which we can raise further money from the
community for the redevelopment of the Youth
Centre”.
