A group of firefighters from Yate Fire Station have been doing
their bit for the community by helping a local playgroup.
Having visited the Yate Opportunity Group earlier in their year
as part of a fire safety initiative, crews from the station became
aware of the group’s need for more resources, so decided to try and
help.
They hosted a car wash where members of the public paid a
donation in return for their vehicles to be cleaned.
On Tuesday 23 September firefighters from White Watch visited
the playgroup to hand over the £250 they had raised from the
event.
Firefighter Geoff Brimble said: “We visit many local groups in
the Yate area and were really wanted to help the Yate Opportunity
Group because they do such vital work. We thought it would be a
great idea if we could do something to help, so we organised a car
wash, which was a real success.”
As well as handing over the money to the group the children were
given a tour of a fire engine and had the chance to try on some
fire kit and helmets.
