A group of trainee firefighters from Avon and Devon &
Somerset fire and rescue services are set to embark on a grueling
challenge to raise money for charity.
On Monday 7 December the trainees will be climbing the height of
Mount Everest, using a ladder in the Cabot Circus shopping centre
in Bristol.
The trainees will have to climb the ladder 1,006 times as they
re-create the 8,840 metres to the top of the world’s highest
peak.
Shoppers will be invited to make a donation, with all money
raised being donated to The Fire Fighters Charity and Hospicare
Exeter.
Watch Manager Rich Basham, who is a trainer at the Severn Park
Fire & Rescue Service Training Centre at Avonmouth, said: “This
is quite a tough challenge for the trainees to undergo and will no
doubt test their stamina and fitness skills.
“When raising money for charity it can be difficult to come up
with creative ways to encourage people to support the event, but
this event is bound to attract a lot of attention as it is in such
a public place and for two really great causes.”
Richard Belt, Centre Director at Cabot Circus, added: “We are
delighted to be able to assist with this fantastic fundraising
event and help two such important charities, which both play a
vital role in the South West. It will certainly be a tough
challenge for the trainees, so we would urge shoppers to come along
to Cabot Circus on the day to show their support and help the team
achieve their goal.”
The challenge is expected to take around 2-3 hours to
complete.
