Firefighters from across Avon are set to swap their fire kit for
hoses and sponges as they take part in the annual national Fire
Fighters Charity car wash.
Crews from the stations, including Avonmouth, Kingswood,
Patchway, Clevedon, Bath and Keynsham will be hosting the event on
Saturday 19 September (see details below).
As windows are being washed and bonnets buffed, drivers and
their families will have the chance to meet their local
firefighters and chat about fire safety, while raising money for
The Fire Fighters Charity.
The charity provides support services and treatment to more than
13,500 serving and retired members of staff from UK fire and rescue
services. It is run at a cost of £9 million a year and is entirely
reliant on donations from the general public and fire
community.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service Chief Fire Officer / Chief
Executive Kevin Pearson said: “The Fire Fighters Charity helps
hundreds of firefighters, support staff and their families during
difficult times, providing rehabilitation, physiotherapy and
financial assistance.
“As the charity relies heavily on charitable donations Avon Fire
& Rescue Service is always keen to support the annual car wash
event, with many of our fire stations taking part. I hope members
of the public will also support the charity by pulling in to their
local fire station, having their vehicles washed and making a
donation to this great cause.”
