Firefighters from Avon Fire & Rescue Service are set to make
the home of the Chairwoman of South Gloucestershire Senior Citizens
Forum safer, thanks to a Home Fire Safety Visit.
Crews from Yate Fire Station will be visiting Tina Dean at her
home on Thursday 22 October as part of efforts to make more
vulnerable members of the community safer.

The Home Fire Safety Visit will see crews fitting smoke
detectors, which can provide an early warning sign that a fire has
broken out. They will also talk to Ms Dean about fire safety and
ensure she knows how to test the battery in her smoke
detectors.
Yate Fire Station Manager Steve Kendrick said: “Smoke detectors
really do save lives and can give someone vital extra minutes to
escape a fire in the home.
"Avon Fire & Rescue Service provides free Home Fire Safety
Visits to vulnerable members of the community, including older
people, and I would urge everyone to ensure they have smoke
detectors in their home and to check the battery regularly.”
Chairwoman of the South Gloucestershire Senior Citizens Forum,
Tina Dean, said: “I am really pleased that Avon Fire & Rescue
Service has agreed to carry out this visit as it will make me feel
much safer in my home knowing that if a fire breaks out a smoke
alarm will alert me.
“I am anxious that as many people as possible access this free
service, not just older residents in the community, but young
families and those living alone too as it not only provides peace
of mind, but also could save lives.”
