Firefighters from across Avon Fire & Rescue Service have
been raising money to help the families of the four firefighters,
who died in a blaze in Warwickshire earlier this month.
On Saturday 10 November crews at Yate Fire Station held a car
wash day, where members of the public were invited to have their
vehicles cleaned for a small donation to a charitable cause.
They were joined by crews from Blue Watch Patchway and
Speedwell.
A massive £2,666 was raised for the Warwickshire Firefighters’
Families Fund.
Station Manager for Yate Fire Station, Steve Kendrick, said:
“Following the tragedy in Warwickshire crews decided they wanted to
do something to raise money to help the families affected. The car
wash was very well supported by the people of Yate with many
wanting their cars washed and helping us to raise lots of
money.”
A similar event was also held at Avon Fire & Rescue
Service’s Youth Development Centre at Bedminster Fire Station,
where £336 was raised for the fund.
Green Watch Avonmouth have also been busy raising money at their
car wash at the local Costco store.
They were joined by Green Watch Southmead and in just three
hours they managed to raised nearly £900 for the families.
Green Watch Manager at Avonmouth, Mike Lewis, said: “The watch
had been discussing what we could do to help the families affected
by the Warwickshire fire and with Christmas coming up we thought
the families will need the money, so we decided to have a car
wash.”
The total raised from these three events is now nearly
£4,000.
