Press Release - Arson hot spots targeted during Environmental Day of Action

Tuesday 17 March

09.00hrs

Avon’s Arson Task Force (ATF) took to the streets of Twerton on Saturday (March 14) to help cut the number of deliberate fires started in the area.

The work took place as part of an Environmental Action Day which saw various local organisations and services joined forces to provide help and support to local residents.

With abandoned vehicles and fly tipping often proving too much of a temptation for arsonists, Ian Strand from the ATF and BANES Community Safety Officer Brian Wafer worked with representatives from Bath and North East Somerset Council and Somer Housing to stage a Deep Clean Keep Clean operation.

Their efforts saw 15 abandoned vehicles removed, along with eight piles of fly-tipping rubbish and 15 items of graffiti.

In the week leading up to the day of action, the agencies, which also included Avon and Somerset Constabulary and the DVLA, set up an information stand in Twerton High Street and were on hand to answer questions from shoppers.

You can report abandoned vehicles to AF&RS's Car Clear scheme on 08000 835 115. For more information visit our Arson Task Force page
