Pensioner dies after Bristol fire

Two appliances were called to a private house after a fire broke out in the kitchen area. In response to initial reports that the house was still occupied, firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and rescued an elderly male.

The man was immediately treated at the scene by paramedics before being transferred to hospital by ambulance. Tragically the pensioner died in hospital two days later.

During the course of the firefighting operation two hose reels were used to extinguish the fire.
