Fire broke out in a ground floor flat after cooking was left
unattended on a hob.
When firefighters arrived at the property they found smoke
issuing from the premises and had to force entry.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire in
the kitchen using one high pressure hose reel. A positive pressure
ventilation fan was then used to clear the smoke.
It’s thought the fire started accidentally after the couple, who
live in the flat with their two children, had gone out and left
something cooking.
Neighbours were alerted to the fire when the smoke alarm
activated.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people never
to leave cooking unattended as it can lead to fire breaking
out.
The service would also like to remind people about the
importance of working smoke detectors, which provide an early
warning sign that a fire has broken out. They can provide occupants
with vital extra minutes to escape the
premises.
