Avon Fire & Rescue Service crews were called to the site of the nuclear power station after fire broke out in an electricity transformer. As a matter of precaution 10 appliances were mobilsed, but an automatic suppression system was successful in extinguishing the blaze without the intervention of fire service personnel.

The incident occurred on an area of the site some distance away from the nuclear reactor, which was shut down in repsonse to the incident. No one was injured and there was no release of radioactivity.
