Nailsea fire investigated

Monday 1 December
11.51 Somerfield, High Street, Nailsea

A fire has caused damage to the store room of a supermarket in Nailsea.

A total of five appliances attended the High Street in response to calls from a number of businesses reporting their alarms activating. Following an investigation crews found a fire on the first floor of the Somerfield store. Smoke escaping from the building had caused the fire alarms in neighbouring business to activate.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used a hose reel to extinguish the blaze in the store room. The fire had caused heavy smoke logging to the first floor of the building in an area not open to the public. The store was evacuated when the alarms sounded. Crews broke a number of windows in a bid to vent smoke from the premises and a positive pressure ventilation fan was also used.

The cause of the fire is being investigated.
