Mother and child freed in RTC

Firefighters have rescued a mother and her child from their car, after a road traffic collision.

On arrival at the incident crews found two vehicles involved and a mother and her child trapped in one of the cars.

Crews used hydraulic cutting equipment to remove the roof and door of the vehicle. The two-year-old child, who appeared to be unhurt during the incident, was lifted from the vehicle and taken to hospital for a precautionary check-up.

The mother, a woman in her 30s, was suffering from suspected spinal and facial injuries. She was placed on to a spinal board and taken to hospital. Her injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

A woman in her 70s, who was in the second vehicle, was unhurt during the incident..
