Firefighters have rescued a man during a fire at his flat.

When crews arrived at the 16-storey building they found a small amount of smoke coming from a flat on the 11th floor, but were unable to wake the occupant.

Forcing entry into the premises two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus conducted a thorough search and found a man in his 30s asleep in the bedroom and a fire in the kitchen.

He was suffering from smoke inhalation and assisted to safety where he was given oxygen therapy by crews. He was not taken to hospital.

It appears the fire started accidentally after cooking was left on the hob and caught alight.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to take care when cooking and never leave it unattended as it could lead to fire breaking out.
