Man rescued from lift shaft

A man was taken to hospital with serious head injuries following an incident at a Bristol building site.

On arrival crews found the man, who had been working at the bottom of a lift shaft when he received the head injury. As he was around three metres below the nearest access point the rope rescue team from Temple Fire Station were mobilised.

Working alongside paramedics and the Air Ambulance crew, firefighters worked quickly to set a lines and a pulley. The injured man was placed into a strecther before being winched from the base of the shaft in a swift operation lasting around 20 minutes.

He was then transferred to hospital with what are believed to be serious head injuries.
