Wednesday 30 December
18.35 Bristol Road, Congresbury
An elderly man has died following a fire at a bungalow in
Congresbury.
Passers by noticed the blaze and called 999. They also
alerted neighbours to the fire.
Two fire engines from Yatton and Clevedon responded to the call.
After gaining entry to the property four firefighters wearing
breathing apparatus found a fire in the living room. Crews used two
high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze, but tragically
the body of an elderly man was found in the room.
The fire was contained to a single room and was prevented from
spreading into an adjoining bungalow.
Police and fire service investigators carried out an
investigation last night which concluded the fire had started
accidentally.
