Man dies in Congresbury house fire

A fire engine in front of the fire damaged bungalow An elderly man has died following a fire at a bungalow in Congresbury.

Passers by noticed the blaze and called 999. They also alerted neighbours to the fire.

Two fire engines from Yatton and Clevedon responded to the call. After gaining entry to the property four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus found a fire in the living room. Crews used two high pressure hose reels to extinguish the blaze, but tragically the body of an elderly man was found in the room.

The fire was contained to a single room and was prevented from spreading into an adjoining bungalow.

Police and fire service investigators carried out an investigation last night which concluded the fire had started accidentally.
