Bristol
A man has had a lucky escape after a fire broke out as he fell
asleep while smoking.
The 32-year-old was only alerted to the fire in the first floor
flat when his smoke alarm activated.
When crews arrived they found the man suffering from smoke
inhalation and he was assisted by paramedics at the scene before
being taken to hospital.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus tackled the fire in
the bedroom using one high pressure hose reel.
Avon Fire & Rescue Service would like to remind people to
take care when using smoking materials and never to smoke in bed.
Always ensure smoking materials are fully extinguished after use
and never put cigarette ends into a waste paper bin.
Fortunately, a working smoke alarm alerted the man to the
fire.
