Laundry sparks fire

Friday 19 December
19.49 West Street, Bedminster, Bristol

A call came into Control from someone who lived in a block of flats behind West Street, who could see smoke coming from the property.

On arrival firefighters had to force entry to the property, as there was no one home.

Four firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the house and found a fire in a ground floor living room.

Using one high pressure hose reel they extinguished the fire. A positive pressure ventilation fan was used to clear the smoke.

A Staffordshire Bull Terrier dog was rescued by crews from the house and was none the worse for wear following the fire.

The room was badly damaged by fire and smoke.

The fire is thought to have started after clothes left hanging to dry in front of an open fire caught alight.
