Firefighters were called in to rescue a horse injured in
a road traffic collision.
Crews from Yate, Temple and Bath fire stations were alerted to the
incident which involved a single vehicle and a horse and
rider.
The driver of the car suffered only minor injuries, as did the 19
year old female rider, however her horse was left in a ditch,
trapped in a wire fence.
Fire crews trained in large animal rescue techniques first used
bolt croppers to free Charlie, the eight year old horse from the
fence. Animal slings were then used to move the horse back onto the
road. Despite suffering injuries to his rear quarter, Charlie was
able to stand up unassisted. After being checked over by a vet the
horse was walked into a trailer before being taken away for more
medical treatment.
