River rescue for woman and dog

A woman and a dog were rescued from a riverbank in Henbury this morning.

It is believed the pair became stuck by the riverbank at Peverall Close after the woman jumped into the river to rescue the dog – a black Labrador called Rook. Passers-by heard the woman shouting and raised the alarm.

Firefighters from Southmead rescued the pair by lowering a ladder to the riverbank. Neither were injured as a result of the incident.
